Gemini Sets Guinness World Record with 1,000-Drone Bitcoin Logo Display
Cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has set a new Guinness World Record by orchestrating a 1,000-drone aerial display, forming the Bitcoin (BTC) logo in the sky. This marks the largest-ever currency symbol displayed using drones. The record-breaking event took place on March 13 in Austin, Texas, as part of Gemini’s celebration of the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve initiative. The spectacle featured a series of visuals, including a rocket launch and a moon landing, before culminating in the iconic Bitcoin ₿ logo. The display was accompanied by a message: “Go where dollars won’t.” Gemini described the event as a celebration of Bitcoin’s role in the future of money.
Crypto Perpetuals Trading Doubles to $58.5T in 2024
The crypto derivatives market experienced a historic surge in 2024, with perpetual futures trading volumes reaching an all-time high. According to CoinGecko’s latest report, the total trading volume on the top 10 centralized perpetual exchanges doubled to $58.5 trillion in 2024, up from $28 trillion in 2023. The fourth quarter saw a significant increase of 79.6% compared to the third quarter, with a volume of $21.2 trillion. Binance remained the largest player in the market, but its market share declined from 43% in January to 34% in December. Other exchanges also played significant roles, though their specific performance was not detailed in the report. This growth indicates the increasing popularity of perpetual futures contracts, which allow traders to maintain positions indefinitely without expiration.
